Don't Wanna Waste Any Time

Only For You

I wrote it in a car on the way to Spring Harvest with my friend Helen. I was struck by the knowledge that so many people were gathering in one place to worship, and yet if there was only one of them, Christ would still have gone to the cross. That is consistently hard information to take in and yet it’s the biggest take-home message from many a sermon. The arrangement style reflects the strength we have in that knowledge as the song builds, with the backing vocal reminder “Only for you” as a gentle prod throughout the choruses.

You cannot tell the love I have in me.
Wherever you may go is where I will be.
When darkness falls I will light the way,
Show you where to go –by your side I will stay.

I’m trying to get to you cutting through your darkest dreams.
Was nailed to a cross for you, to show you what life means.

I can see the tears that you cry.
I can feel your lonliness inside.
I will be the guardian of your mind.
You are my child; I would have died only for you.

So child please don’t go, don’t walk away.
I will come to you, just call on my name.
I will raise you up, you needn’t be afraid.
Your world will never ever be the same.

I’m trying to get to you cutting through your darkest dreams.
Was nailed to a cross for you, to show you what life means.

I can see the tears that you cry.
I can feel your lonliness inside.
I will be the guardian of your mind.
You are my child; I would have died only for you.
