The contrast of the apparent demise of Christ as He hung on the cross, with the incredible glory as He defeated death in doing so, is shown in this song. The fact is, He was an innocent man, watched while He was crucified by a greedy crowd who rubbed their hands together to see the King of the Jews in such a state. Yet His planned death is what enables us to sing Hallelujah, as God made the ultimate sacrifice of His own Son, in order that we can live forever with Him in paradise if we acknowledge what He did for us and live our earthly lives for Him.
I saw You hanging there,
I watched you cease to breathe.
It’s not complicated,
You hung and died for me.
I stood by, while You were cloaked in my shame;
Every lash that ripped Your side,
Every rusty nail
Smashing through Your innocent life.
And now I’m calling hallelujah.
Hallelujah.
I wish I could fully know
The power of Your love,
But I, just for now,
Accept Your truths in faith.
I’ll walk along,
Content for You to show me the way.
One day it all will be complete,
I’ll be like You when I see you
And forever I will be….
