I wrote this for some friends who were going through some major life upheavals. It talks about the fact that so often, when we see people, we smile and say “yes fine thanks” when in reality, there’s so much more going on. Often those things going on are good – so much of life is good!! However, we only let certain people in behind those smiles, whatever’s going on in our lives. The song speaks of God’s faithfulness to us, and that only God really knows “the you behind the smiles”.
