Chasing My Tail

Chasing My Tail

Mountain

I was at HTB; a large church in London, one evening. That’s the church that started the national Alpha courses. There were some people talking about their own experiences of the course. A middle aged, very successful businessman, spoke of how he’d reached the top of everything he’d ever done – in business, finance, property – the lot. In none of these things did he feel fulfilled, always feeling the next bit of climbing he did would be what fulfilled him. Then he did the Alpha course and found purpose in his life. At the church that night, he said he wished somebody had told him years ago, that when he’d got to the top of his own mountain, there would have been nothing there. This song is about that man, in his new faith fulfilled life.

Standing on your mountain,
I can see things clearly now.
Stretching out before me;
The unknown, the unseen,
And I’m content just to be.

Before I know you
I climbed my own mountain,
I reached the peak,
But there was nothing there.
Coming down the other side,
I left my things behind,
I didn’t even want to find them again.

I’ll go up to your mountain,
And I’ll stay
And watch the sun go down.

On your mountain
The air is cleaner;
I can breathe easy now.
How can I comprehend
All that you provide,
All that I see?

I’ll go up to your mountain,
And I’ll stay
And watch the sun go down.

Standing on your mountain,
I can see things clearly now.
Stretching out before me;
The unknown, the unseen,
And I’m content just to be.
